The last council meeting approved the terms of the contract to be established between the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) and the municipality of Lagos, under which the municipality is allowed to intervene in the protection of the coastline. The aim is to provide the municipality with the legal legitimacy to launch the tender for the "Protection of the Praia D. Ana Beach and Restoration of the Access to the Montana Building".
According to the municipality, the decision will allow to move forward with the necessary works to stop or, at least, to slow down the cliff erosion process and to restore the accessibility conditions for the safety of people and goods in that coastal area, minimizing the negative visual impact of that entire area.
Meanwhile, the municipality has also presented to the Ministry of the Environment its willingness to collaborate in the development of studies concerning the Pinhão cliff, a area that also shows clear signs of erosion.
