The current owners have worked hard, throughout the pandemic to date to put Oscars on the map again both in terms of service, and the quality of food being offered. The Vila Sol stalwart is receiving rave reviews from locals about the transformation of the Bar into a family-friendly environment with superb food offerings at competitive prices.

The Monday night quiz has become one of the busiest on the Algarve with regular fun prizes on offer such as a round of mini golf, cinema tickets and the main prize worth up to €100 each week.

This June sees a host of fun events with a barn dance on 16 June organised by Carolyn McKeown of Shebang Events & PR Management, which will be a great evening of fun dancing. They will be live music with line dancing, superb food prepared by the Oscars’ chefs with BBQ platters and pitchers of beer. They’ve even organised a Bucking Bronco, a raffle prizes for best dressed adults plus Kids activities. And it’s all for a great cause too, Oscars are delighted to announce that they are working with the Almancil International Rotary Club's charity and the Alzheimer’s home in Vila Sol to build a sensory garden for everyone who stays there or visits.

But the event of the summer is the Oscars factor competition with a top prize of €750 and €250 for the runner-up. The Oscar's Factor 2023 is a brilliant singer/songwriter competition taking throughout June at Oscar's Bar, Vila Sol. Entry is free but you must book your place in the competition in advance.

The event is to showcase the up-and-coming talent on the Algarve with two semi-finals taking place on Friday 9th June and Friday 23 June and will take place in their recently renovated garden terrace. The confirmed judges for the event are Sir Owen G, from Kiss FM and the immensely talented Althea Browne of Boney M fame. Each week they will be joined by a special guest mystery judge to pick the best of the singers to go through to the big finale. To add to the excitement, Oscars promises a big-name guest for the final.

The event is already the talk of the town, so booking your tables at the semi-finals and finals is essential. Oscars say that all singers/songwriters are welcome as long as they register in advance for the two semi-finals. Places for the first semi-final on 9 June have already been filled. Book your spot in the crowd for what will be an electrifying event.

Entries for the second semi-final must be submitted is free but you may be asked to attend a pre-audition for selection for each semi-final. The top 5 artists from both semi-finals will go through to the final on Thursday 29th June 2023.

San Miguel is sponsoring prizes for the event and there will special offers on San Miguel, and special food offers on each night.

You can either sing your own song or a song written by someone else. The contest is open to applicants aged 16 and over who write and perform any form of music. We welcome all musical genres from pop to rock, country to grime and everything in between. Our only request is that your lyrics are clean and inoffensive.

Our panel of judges will choose 5 semi-finalists at the heat events with the finalists battling for the crown.
