“Last year we brought the first edition of this federated drag racing competition to fruition,” Mogadouro mayor António Pimentel explained, “and as it’s not our policy to put on ephemeral events, this year we’ve put this competition on again, which brings over a hundred Portuguese and Spanish drivers to Mogadouro.”

Another of the RaceWars Motorfestival Mogadouro initiative’s objectives is to convey a complete experience to all visitors and racers in a sporting event where “emotions” are centred on the runway of the Mogadouro Municipal Aerodrome, in the Bragança district, with a national championship trial for this automotive modality and an extra competition “where any participant and authorised vehicle can enter.”

According to the mayor, the 2022 trial “was a success,” because of which the municipality invested again in the initiative this year, an initiative that brings a lot of visitors to the town, thus giving back to the local economy, especially the restaurants, hotels, and local accommodation and groceries.

“After that first trial, some edges were noted to smoothen out for next time, as we intend to keep the event in Mogadouro for the foreseeable future, as it doesn’t just attract Portuguese people but also the Spanish, given the proximity to the Spanish provinces of Zamora and Salamanca,” António Pimentel surmised.

As parallel activities, the event promoters have promised a “unique” show that includes a car with an 8000bhp jet engine, a driving competition for local amateurs, and a lot of music and night-time entertainment with live music and DJs.

More novelties this year are the placement of grandstands on either side of the drag strip, able to sit about 300 people, since the competition will use both sides of the track.

Investment in this competition, which is homologated by the Portuguese Automotive and Karting Federation, rounds to 33 thousand euros and will count with the security assurance of the firemen, GNR and Proteção Civil.
