Men have been able to apply since the scheme was introduced in 2012, but it has taken women longer since lesbian activity wasn’t explicitly outlawed but was still punished under indecency laws. Homosexuality in England was decriminalised in 1967.
Pardoning the Past
Under a new expansion to the government’s Disregards and Pardons Scheme, women previously convicted of homosexual activity may now apply for a pardon.
