The works will cover the Medieval Bridge, Largo Guilherme Gomes Fernandes, Rua Custódio José Gomes Vilas Boas and Rua Miguel Ângelo.
“The undertaking will requalify the whole space in front of the old fire station and the adjacent streets,” Mário Constantino, the mayor of Barcelos, confirmed in a press release, “and includes new water and sewage pipe networks.”
The project will cost around a million euros and has an execution time of 300 days. “All public works cause spills in traffic,” the mayor admitted, but guaranteed that the “circumstantial disturbance will be compensated for by the historic centre’s requalification.”
The local government has also explained that “the space between the medieval bridge and the Parish office will benefit from a new configuration and dimensions in a clear commitment to creating inclusive public spaces, where people, independently of their mobility, can enjoy. As such, the program behind this project established strengthening and returning the urban nucleus to pedestrians as a priority.”
The project is also contemplating improving the streetlights and urban garbage collection equipment.
