The price of the basket of essential goods of a set of food products covered by “zero VAT” dropped by 71 cents in the last week, and now costs 127.05 euros, according to calculations by the Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection (Deco).
If on July 5 the “VAT zero” basket monitored by Deco cost 127.76 euros, this Wednesday it cost 127.05 euros. This is a reduction of 71 cents (0.56%). It is the fifth week in a row of price relief, after, in the week of June 7, having risen by almost one euro.
If the comparison is made with the day before the start of the measure, April 17, the difference is more expressive: in that period, the basket monitored by Deco was 11.72 euros cheaper, which translates into a drop of 8.45 %.
In the last week, frozen peas were the product that most rose in price, with an increase of 11% (34 cents more) compared to the previous week. This is followed by horse mackerel (+9%), carolino rice (+6%), extra virgin olive oil (+5%), orange and sea bream (both +4%) and beef for cooking, broccoli, red potatoes and cauliflower (all 3%).
