The Russian invasion of Ukraine further accelerated the rise in energy prices. Together with the high prices of raw materials and the drought, the conjuncture has been weighing on the bills of Portuguese families when it is time to go to the supermarket. Since then, the price of a basket of essential goods has soared by 21.63 euros, which represents an increase of 11.78% compared to that recorded on 23 February.
63 essential food products, are monitored weekly which include turkey, chicken, hake, horse mackerel, onions, potatoes, carrots, bananas, apples, oranges, rice, spaghetti, sugar, ham, milk, cheese and butter.
Biggest increases
With regard specifically to the last week, that is, between the 11th and 18th of May, Deco highlights the 10 products that registered the biggest increases were “carrots (10% more), fish fingers (8% more), Gala apple (plus 8%), onion (plus 7%), butter with salt (plus 6%), horse mackerel (plus 6%), broccoli (plus 6%), sliced turkey breast (plus 6 %), heart kale (plus 6%) and fresh hake (plus 5%).
