"In the second quarter of 2023, according to the flash estimate of International Trade in Goods, exports and imports decreased by 5.2% and 6.2%, respectively, in nominal terms, compared to the same period of 2022", refers to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
This decrease follows the slowdown in the growth of goods transactions, which has been observed since the third quarter of 2022, indicates the national statistical authority, noting that there was no record of negative quarterly year-on-year change rates since the fourth quarter of 2020 in exports and the first quarter of 2021 in imports of goods, moments then "heavily affected by the pandemic crisis".
In the first quarter of 2023, exports and imports had increased, year-on-year, by 13.0% and 8.9%, respectively.
This flash estimate is incorporated into the calculation of the flash estimate of INE's Quarterly National Accounts and will be updated in the next monthly release of International Trade statistics.
