The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) told Expresso newspaper, that the new speed cameras will become active this summer, although gave no fixed date.
There will be 20 points that will be regulated with the new average speed cameras, although the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) only has 10 cameras.
Unlike those that measure instantaneous speed, the new radar system monitors the average speed between two points by measuring the time taken by vehicles to travel a certain distance.
ANSR will only have 10 radars available, but the places where they will be can be changed across a total of 20 points.
These points are:
Aveiro: A41;
Beja: EN206 and IC1;
Castelo Branco: IC8;
Coimbra: A1 and EN109;
Évora: A6 and IP2;
Faro: EN398;
Lisbon: A9, EN10, EN6-7 and IC19;
Porto: A3.
Santarém: A1;
Setúbal: EN10, EN378, EN4, EN5 and IC1;
Moooooooo, make way, make way. Cash Cow arriving on the scene. make way, its for your safety!

I, for one am very glad the new safety cameras will be up and running. The drivers have no respect for the código de estrada. If thus is the ony way for them to understand that they are not the ony ones on the road and must share the roads safely, then só be it .. Bravo!!!!!!

I'm happy there's none in Leiria. I love speeding and think on certain parts of the motorway it should be increased to 160 or 180kph.. the Germans have it right. If the road is big and safe enough they should make the speed signs electronic on motorways only reducing the speed if the weather or traffic conditions are bad.
