An industry source has revealed to The Portugal News that Boavista Golfe & Spa in Lagos is to be the latest location for a new luxury hotel in the region, with possible plans to involve a large American company in the management of the property.
Earlier this year the Mercan Properties group laid the foundation stone for the new Lagos Marina Hotel project, which will be the target of an investment of €107.8 million.
This project in Lagos will result in two hotels: the five-star Lagos Marina Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, and the four-star Hilton Garden Inn Lagos.
With an opening date scheduled for 2026, the project is the result of urban rehabilitation work, joining the pipeline of four other projects that Mercan is developing in the region, including the Alvor Beach Hotel, the Hotel Indigo Faro Ribeirinha, the Marriott Lagos and the Hard Rock Hotel Algarve. The group also has another project already in operation in the Algarve, the Hotel Califórnia Urban Beach, located on Praia dos Pescadores in Albufeira.
Meanwhile, Hilton has also announced plans to open three new hotels in Portugal between 2025 and 2026 under three brands – Canopy by Hilton, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, and DoubleTree by Hilton – as part of the group’s expansion plans in Portugal.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development, EMEA at Hilton, said: “Last year, tourist numbers reached all-time highs in Portugal and, with demand expected to continue, we will continue to invest in this truly attractive market”.
