These two bills were submitted to the Assembly of the Republic and the PS Parliamentary Group, according to information provided to Lusa by an official source.
In the diploma that intends to change the Highway Code, the socialists say that “the growing use of motorcycles in Portugal reflects a transformation in mobility patterns, especially in urban areas, which must be addressed appropriately”, proposing the PS measures “promote integration, and the safe and efficient use of motorcycles in urban traffic”.
“It is proposed to regulate the movement of motorcyclists between rows of vehicles, in situations of high traffic intensity, under strict safety conditions, such as speed limits, maintenance of adequate lateral distances and prohibition of overtaking on the right, except in specific situations ”, explains the party.
This measure, according to the PS, aims to reduce travel times and decongest roads, ensuring the safety of all users. This legislative initiative also includes the “creation of exclusive spaces for motorcyclists next to traffic lights, ensuring greater visibility and safety”.
The other bill intends to make a change to the IUC road tax regarding the category of motorcycles, noting that the calculation system currently in force, which is based on ranges, has “limitations that can generate perceptions of inequality and make it difficult for citizens to understand ”.
“The Socialist Party proposes the elimination of the brackets applicable to Category E vehicles, replacing them with a formula that establishes a value for each cm3 of engine capacity, guaranteeing proportional taxation adjusted to the reality of the vehicles in circulation”.
According to socialists, with this change, we move towards a “fairer and more equitable tax system” and create a “simple and predictable model, reinforcing citizens’ trust in the tax system”.
Typical Socialists!!!.... more regulations (hence more penalties) and more taxes... always thinking up of ways to keep people poor.
