"Most houses in Portugal are not prepared for the heat. 83% of houses do not have air conditioning, according to the 2021 Census", says Pordata.
The data compiled and released by Pordata reveals that only 17% of Portuguese homes have air conditioning.
If they had built houses with better insulation, the need for air cooling would have been much less.
Relatively new houses also lack insulation i Portugal.

So....If Portugese houses are not prepared/constructed for the heat and they're DEFINITELY not constructed for the cold and damp...just exactly what are they constructed for?

I would add that they are not prepared for the cold either. We get high electricity bills in summer and winter. In summer to pay for running air conditioners to cool where we live down, and in winter to do the opposite.

Check ecoperfil, they are serious and provide great services for the renovation and improvement of conditions of existing houses and buildings, at very reasonable costs. We had the best experience with them, and they took care of renewing and fully insulating our 2 houses in Algarve.

Looks like some are living in the wrong country. Portugals climate is outside living in the summer and cozy up to a log fire in the cooler months…..Love It.

Aircon is an environmental no no. Insulation is the answer. We have external institution, it is excellent.

In countries like Portugal where temperatures can be so extreme - less and less so on winter - AC equipment for freshness or heating is absolutely essential if you want any quality of life at all.
