This solar project, located in the parish of São João da Boa Vista, comprises around 90,000 solar panels and represents an investment of around 40 million euros.
The installed capacity of the infrastructure, which occupies approximately 90 hectares, amounts to 48 peak megawatts (MWp), which allows for the annual generation of up to 60-gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy, enough to meet the energy needs of around 60,000 families annually.
The energy generated will be injected into the national electricity grid through a distribution line at a voltage of 60 kilovolts (kv) which is, in turn, connected to the Tábua substation.
The statement also notes that the construction of the park resulted in the creation of more than 100 direct and indirect jobs in the region, “with the entire project having been carried out respecting the measures defined by the environmental authority and in close collaboration with the local community.”
“With the start-up of the Tábua Solar Power Station, we are taking all the benefits of renewable energies to families and companies, but we are also making our contribution to the country’s decarbonization effort”, quotes the statement from João Manso Neto, noting that the park will avoid the emission of 13,200 tons of CO2 per year.
I'd be curious to know whether the land the 90,000 solar panels were built on - to save the planet of course - was cleared of all trees and bushes and wild life...
