The suspect, Clóvis Abreu, appeared accompanied by lawyer Aníbal Pinto, after more than a year and a half without presenting himself to the authorities, has now been placed in the custody of the Judiciary Police.
“A year and a half ago, Mr. Clóvis Abreu made a request saying that he wanted to present himself and waited for it to be scheduled. There was a communication difficulty, a mistake, I don't know what happened... he never received a request saying to present himself. Therefore, he made another request, received a response, and presented himself today,” the agent explained to journalists.
Speaking on television outside the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) in Lisbon, Aníbal Pinto recalled that Clóvis Abreu presented himself voluntarily today and that this should mean a measure of coercion applied by the criminal investigation judge that did not mean detention.
“I was perfectly aware that I could and should be detained, in my opinion unnecessarily. Tomorrow, the investigating judge will apply a coercive measure, we will wait. For him to be deprived of freedom, one of the following conditions must exist... There is no danger of escape, there is no danger of continuation of criminal activity, there is no danger of disruption to the investigation”, he highlighted.
