The 2024 edition of the Vuelta will start on August 17th in Lisbon, in principle, with a time trial between Torre de Belém and Praia da Torre, in the municipality of Oeiras.
Two more stages will follow in Portugal, on the 18th and 19th of August, between Cascais and Ourém and between Lousã and Castelo Branco.
According to the organisation, one of the objectives for starting the Vuelta 2024 in Lisbon is to be "an example" of how Portugal and Spain can bid together for major world events.
This will be the second time that the Tour of Spain by bike will start in Lisbon, after the same thing that happened in 1997, to promote Expo98, which took place in the Portuguese capital.
According to data provided by the organization, the Spanish race currently involves a caravan of around three thousand people, which corresponds to an average expenditure of 150 euros per day and per person in the week before each stage in the places of origin of each round of the competition.
