The Government estimates it will raise additional revenue of almost 40 million euros with this update.
“Revenue from tobacco tax (IT) is also expected to grow by 176.6 million euros and from IABA by 39.6 million euros, explained by the combination of growth in private consumption and domestic demand in the next year and updating the proposed tax rates”, points out the report that accompanies the proposed State Budget for 2024 (OE2024).
In total, the Ministry of Finance estimates that IABA will bring in 467.1 million euros to the State coffers in 2024, compared to the 340.1 million estimated for this year.
Is there anything this government will do that isn't just more socialism?

Can only be good, these sort of taxes drinking and smoking cut the cost if running hospitals, we can only hope they put the money to good use.

Alex - no comment when taxes are *reduced* by "socialists"? https://www.theportugalnews.com/news/2023-10-10/income-tax-reduction/82150

@DAG, thanks, but the reduction only targets those at the lower end of incomes and will do nothing to attract high skilled job. Still socialism.
