Lí Ban and her dog lived for a year in a cave but became very lonely. She prayed to the old goddess & gods that she may be a fish to spend her days with the salmon and sea life as a company.
Her wish was granted and then she became a half woman & half Salmon, a mermaid and her dog an otter, in Irish we call otters ”madra uisce” which means sea dog.
The ”Annals of Ulster also in 558 document lí Ban. In this tale, she lived 300 years under the sea. We are told at the time of St Comgall his fisherman Béoán heard her angelic singing.
She was baptised Muirgen (Seaborn, of the sea ).
