The United Nations World Tourism Barometer regularly monitors short-term tourism trends to provide global tourism stakeholders with up-to-date analysis of international tourism.
Published four times a year, including an analysis of the most recent data on tourist destinations (inbound) and source markets (outbound), the United Nations World Tourism Barometer (UN Tourism) places the Turks and Caicos Islands with the best performance of the year 2023 compared to 2019, with a growth of 127%.
Portugal appears highlighted with a growth of 11%, and in the European region, only Albania (+53%), Andorra (+31%), Lichtenstein (+16%) and Serbia (+15%) appear ahead of Portugal.
“After a strong recovery in 2023, international tourism is expected to fully recover pre-pandemic levels in 2024, with initial estimates pointing to growth of 2% above 2019 levels in international tourist arrivals”, says the UN Tourism.
The positive outlook for the sector is reflected in the latest UN Tourism Confidence Index survey, with 67% of tourism professionals indicating better or much better prospects for 2024 compared to 2023.
