The requalification work, costing around €800,000, will focus on improving the rainwater drainage network, the maintenance and amendment of existing infrastructure, the application of flood mitigation measures and the pavement of the road. “We are talking about €800,000 to see if we can solve the very serious problem of rainwater”, Domingos Silva, the Chamber’s mayor said.
The architectural plan for the Paços do Concelho building renovation, which will cost more than €600,000, was also authorised at the same meeting. Among other things, the project's goal is to guarantee that individuals with limited mobility can enter the building, which will address a long-standing issue.
Disagreeing with the municipality's choice even if not against the project itself, the PS councillor, Alcides Alves has said that “the acquisition of the property plus the cost of the project is €1 million that we are spending to remedy it”, emphasising that this requalification work is not a definitive solution and that the problem will persist.
