It has been disclosed that the Porto City Council is awaiting permission from the Court of Auditors (TdC) to proceed with the contract that calls for the installation of an additional 117 security cameras in Porto’s eastern and western regions. Once TdC approves the start of the contract, the video surveillance system is predicted to be implemented “within a maximum period of 180 days”, the municipality explained.
The Porto City Council has added that the new contract, which was given to the Soltráfego company last year, is not yet being conducted and it is waiting for “approval from the Court of Auditors.” The city's western and eastern regions, specifically the streets around Asprela, Campanhã, Estádio do Dragão, Pasteleira, and Diogo Botelho, will host the installation of the new 117 security cameras. Last December, Soltráfego was awarded by the municipal executive €1.9 million to buy and maintain the system of video surveillance.
The video surveillance system, which covers major areas of Porto’s downtown as União de Freguesias de Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau and Vitória, started operating in June 2022. The system, where data is stored and processed by the head of the operational area of the PSP, operates 24 hours a day, and during every day of the week.
