The forecast is from the Portuguese Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC) and concerns the week of March 22nd to 28th.
In a statement, SPAIC indicates that, during the next seven days, the concentration of pollen in the air is expected to reach a “moderate to high level” in Vila Real (Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region), in Porto ( Entre Douro and Minho region), in Coimbra (Beira Litoral region), Castelo Branco (Beira Interior region), Lisbon (Lisbon and Setúbal region), Évora (Alentejo region) and Faro (Algarve region).
In Funchal (autonomous region of Madeira) and Ponta Delgada (autonomous region of the Azores) the concentration of pollen in the atmosphere will be at a "low level".
The association points out, however, that from Monday onwards “a considerable drop in temperature is expected, as well as the occurrence of rain and showers, reducing the pollen load in the air, due to the effect of 'washing the atmosphere', which is caused by precipitation.”
