In a statement released today, the GNR states that 240 minor injuries were also recorded between 00:00 on Thursday 28 March, and 23:59 on Sunday 31 March.
Of the 22,263 drivers inspected, 303 were driving with excess alcohol and, of these, 165 were arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l.
56 people were also arrested for driving without a legal license, according to the GNR.
In total, the GNR detected 2,913 road traffic offences, 642 for speeding, 455 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 153 for lack of mandatory insurance and 76 for anomalies in lighting and signaling systems.
Additionally, 69 drivers were also detected using their cell phones while driving and 85 cases of missing or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child seats.
The GNR advises attentive and cautious driving so that the festive period can be spent safely.
To travel safely during this festive season, the GNR advises to “adapt the speed to the weather conditions, the condition of the road and the volume of road traffic” and “avoid maneuvers that could result in traffic obstruction or that, in some way, could lead to accidents.”
According to the GNR, the inspection period for greater road patrolling efforts, on the most critical roads, began on Thursday and continues until the end of today.
