In a statement, the GNR stated that in the operation “Concentration Moto de Faro” it will intensify patrolling and road control and inspection actions, “in the periods and main national road axes, especially in the accesses to the area where the International Motorcycle Concentration takes place”.
The objective of this special operation is “to prevent road accidents, ensure the fluidity of road traffic and support road users, providing them with safe travel, raising awareness among users of these vehicles about the dangers resulting from reckless driving of motorcycles and mopeds”.
The GNR will also raise awareness of the importance of using protective equipment, namely helmets, clothing, and appropriate footwear.
“Events related to motorcycles, namely 'motorcycle concentrations', due to their size and media exposure, constitute events that generate a large influx and concentration of participants and spectators, generating major constraints on normal road circulation in the main road axes and direct access to performance areas”, warns this security force.
The GNR states in the statement that this year, until July 16, there were 3,841 road accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles, resulting in 63 fatalities, 357 serious injuries, and 2,903 minor injuries.
The note also recalls that, in 2023, there were 7,320 road accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles, resulting in 127 fatalities, 688 serious injuries, and 5,632 minor injuries.
Starting on today and for four days, the International Motorcycle Meeting will take place in Vale das Almas, a location located next to Faro airport.
Since 1982, this concentration has been consolidating itself in the international calendar of motorbike lovers, gaining prestige and national and international recognition year after year.
One of the highlights of the event is the motorbike parade through the streets of the Algarve capital on the last day of the concentration, Sunday.
