This marks the first time in over 100 years where swimming has been allowed in the river, with city authorities having connected Paris’s boats to the sewer system and built a holding tank to treat contaminated stormwater.
Officials undertook an ambitious plan, including €1.4 billion in infrastructure improvements, to clean up the long-polluted Seine, with a goal to open public pools in its waters starting 2025.
It was good for a week but last weekend it rained and deposited bacteria Ecoli and the remaining swimming event were diverted to some man made freshwater.
I saw the headline banner on Monday morning on BBC News and a woman discussing the change described the above story so dont go jumping in unless you check first with authorities. With the millions they spent to fix the problem and it only lasted for a week changed by some rain I dont think the Seine will be aregular swimming alternative unfortunately as it sounded very clean and inviting .
