Of these fifty Algarve educational establishments, 32 won gift vouchers worth a total of 3,600 euros “which can be exchanged for new electrical equipment”.
At a national level, around 360 tonnes of used batteries, light bulbs and electrical equipment were collected, “more specifically, 15 tonnes of batteries, seven tonnes of light bulbs and 337 tonnes of other used electrical equipment, such as mobile phones, computers, fans or toasters, among other devices”, according to Electrão, which promoted the initiative.
“This is one of the best results of the campaign recorded in recent years and represents an increase of 20% compared to the 300 tonnes collected in the previous school year”, adds the same entity.
The participating schools “receive points based on the quantities collected, which are converted into prizes. For every 10 kilos of batteries, 10 kilos of light bulbs or 100 kilos of used electrical equipment, each school receives a gift voucher worth 75 euros”.
This year, at a national level, 244 schools received gift vouchers worth more than 39 thousand euros, in total.
