The Maia-born tennis player has achieved his best-ever classification in the ATP ranking and joins João Sousa on the list of Portuguese players to enter the top 40 of the world hierarchy.
Sousa, who has since retired, managed to reach 28th place, the best ever for a Portuguese tennis player.
The number two national player, Jaime Faria, rose two positions and is now 159th.
The ranking continues to be led by the Italian Jannik Sinner, followed by the Serbian Novak Djokovic, in second, and the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, in third.
In the women's ranking, the top 5 remained unchanged, with the Polish Iga Swiatek in the lead.
