Nuno Borges, 39th in the world rankings, was unable to surprise the Russian, 10th, and lost 6-3 and 6-4, in 62 minutes, continuing to fail to beat players from the world's top-10.

The start of the sets was decisive in this match, as Rublev managed to break serve in the Portuguese's first service game in both sets, then holding the advantage until the end.

This was the second meeting between the two tennis players, with the former world number five adding his second triumph, having already won in the first round in Basel, Switzerland, in 2024.

Nuno Borges is still in the running in the doubles, alongside Indian Rohan Bopanna, and will play the quarter-finals against Britons Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, in a match that should be played on Thursday.
