The Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC) president Carlos Rodrigues has announced that an international public tender for the construction of a student home in that city, with an estimated 15 million euros in investment, will be issued in October. According to the president, the new residence, which will have 400 beds, will be completed during the first quarter of 2026.
According to Carlos Rodrigues, the new student house will be constructed on the grounds of the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão (ESTG). As he said, “The project is in the review phase, and the international public call for construction is expected to be launched in October, estimating that the contract will be tendered by the end of the year. The new residence will be completed during the first quarter of 2026”.
A court challenge to the public competition for the project preparation delayed the construction of the new home for over a year and a half. The court ordered "a review of the ranking of the three candidates who competed" because it "considered that there was a defect in the formula for calculating the competence of the design team."
The new residence, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), will be constructed in Praia Norte. The 400 beds in the facility will be split between 160 double rooms, 40 single rooms, 10 rooms designated for those with limited mobility, 10 single studies and 10 double studios.
