According to a study by price comparison platform Kombustíveis by KuantoKusta, Braga is the cheapest district in the country to fill up your car with the lowest values for both diesel and petrol. Whereas the districts of Lisbon, Beja, Faro and Bragança have the highest average prices for 95 gasoline and simple diesel in Portugal.

On the 16 October, the average prices for 95 gasoline were highest at petrol stations in the districts of Beja (€1,781/litre), Lisbon (€1,773/litre) and Bragança (€1,771/litre), while diesel had the highest prices in Lisbon (€1,672/litre), Beja (€1,671/litre) and Faro (€1,666/litre).

On the opposite end, the lowest average prices of 95 gasoline were recorded in Braga (€1,740/liter), Castelo Branco (€1,742/litre) and Aveiro (€1,743/litre), with the same districts also recording the lowest average price for diesel, at €1,636/litre.

At the national level, average prices stand at €1,756/litre for 95 gasoline and €1,652/litre for diesel, up from €1,724/litre and €1,652/litre recorded last week.

According to the platform's analysis, these are the average prices by district, of 95 gasoline and diesel on 16 October:

• Aveiro: 95 Gasoline – €1,743/litre; Diesel – €1,636/litre

• Beja: 95 Gasoline– 1,781 €/litre; Diesel – €1,671/litre

• Braga: 95 Gasoline – €1,740/litre; Diesel – €1,636/litre

• Bragança: 95 Gasoline – €1,771/litre; Diesel – €1,663/litre

• Castelo Branco: 95 Gasoline – €1,742/litre; Diesel – €1,636/litre

• Coimbra: 95 Gasoline– €1,756/litre; Diesel – €1.6149/litre

• Évora: 95 Gasoline – €1,768/litre; Diesel – €1,664/litre

• Faro: 95 Gasoline – €1,768/litre; Diesel – €1,666/litre

• Storage: 95 Gasoline – 1,762 €/litre; Diesel – €1,657/litre

Where can you find the cheapest fuel?

Petrol stations in supermarkets continue to offer the most competitive prices when compared to traditional brands and even to low-cost operators: in 13 of the 18 districts of mainland Portugal, Intermarché gas stations are the ones with the lowest prices, both for gasoline and diesel.

It is at Intermarché de Vilar Formoso, in the district of Guarda, that the cheapest fuels in the country are found, with prices almost 25 cents below the national average: 95 gasoline is sold at €1.519/litre and diesel at €1.419/litre.

On the other hand, the most expensive 95 gasoline is currently sold in Vila Nova de Milfontes, in the municipality of Beja, at a price of €1,969/litre. Diesel with the highest price is sold in Cascais, at €1,816/litre.
