The DGS' seventh weekly report indicates that, as of last Sunday, 1,746,301 people were vaccinated against the flu, of which 1,021,876 in pharmacies and the remaining 724,258 in health centers.
DGS data also indicates that, in the current seasonal campaign, 1,208,484 people received the booster dose against Covid-19, with 711,752 choosing to be vaccinated in a pharmacy and 496,639 in a National Health Service (SNS) unit.
Last week, more than 217,000 vaccines were administered against the two diseases.
The report points to higher vaccination coverage for influenza in all four age groups, compared to Covid-19.
In the case of elderly people aged 85 or over, who can only be vaccinated through the SUS, coverage for this age group for influenza reached 67.69% (231,541 people), falling to 53.05% in the case of covid-19 ( 181,455).
The lowest vaccination coverage continues to be observed in the age group between 60 and 69 years old, with 36.46% vaccinated against the flu (473,086) and 26.36% for covid-19 (342,019), says the Secretariat.
The seasonal vaccination campaign began on September 20, with almost five million flu and Covid-19 vaccines to be administered in health centers and more than 2,500 pharmacies, which are vaccinating people between the ages of 60 and 84.
In the 2024/2025 season, vaccination against influenza with a boosted dose was extended to people aged 85 and over, as well as residents of nursing homes and units of the national integrated continuous care network.
The latest results from vaccination monitoring, carried out through an initiative of the Portuguese Society of Pulmonology and the Portuguese Association of General and Family Medicine (APMGF), indicate that vaccination coverage against influenza, in relation to the previous year, has increased in the various groups recommended for taking the vaccine.
