In a unique initiative that the Golegã Council feels will benefit the entire Ribatejo region, Quinta da Cardiga, which has been designated as a property of public interest since 1952, will be renovated and turned into a hotel. Quinta da Cardiga will now undergo renovations to be converted into a four-star hotel with 116 rooms and amenities related to equestrianism.
Quinta da Cardiga is situated between Vila Nova da Barquinha, Entroncamento, and Golegã on the north bank of the River Tagus. The site includes not only the main building but also industrial and agricultural facilities. As stated by Diogo Rosa, vice-president of the Golegã Council, “Considering the tourism development we have had in the municipality of Golegã, this type of offer is differentiating and is aimed at a type of tourist with certain demands that we also need. We are aware that we attract, through equestrian activity, several tourists, but they need more differentiating solutions, as is the case with this hotel”.
With construction expected to begin in 2025, besides the equestrianism facilities as a covered and open-air riding arena, the hotel will also feature football and padel fields, an 800-person event space, massage rooms, gyms and an indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
As Diogo Rosa further emphasised, “The Quinta da Cardiga is a palace and a listed building and is in the memory of all those who live in Golegã, but also in the municipalities of Entroncamento and Vila Nova da Barquinha. Everyone has been waiting for many years for this requalification to be possible and now it seems that we have finally taken a safe step forward with a group that has proven itself in this type of project”.
