Most years the C.A.S.A. Social Club holds a 'Car Treasure Hunt' (also referred to as a Motor Meander), unfortunately this year the club members who usually plan this have moved 'up north' and we were unable to find someone new to help in time to complete the work, we do hope to hold one next year, we already have a volunteer.
Fourteen intrepid golfers attempted the 18-hole course and four non players sat on the terrace in the sun and sagely watched while we played to a rather poor standard. CASA has previously held similar events at this venue (in 2017, '18 and '19) - the staff actually remembered us and still had the photos! Should we be worried?
We were extremely lucky with the weather considering the previous days of rain; " the sun shines on the righteous " they say!!! There was much hilarity, particularly when the Chairperson took 11 attempts to get her ball into one hole, not to mention the ball she had already totally lost in a tunnel.
After some delay collecting the score cards and some adding up, the winner Ann was presented with a silver cup to hold until our next golf competition and a bottle of wine. The two runners up received a bottle of wine and a Christmas box of chocolate biscuits respectively.
Finally, we gathered together for the cold buffet which had been prepared by some of the club committee members. A wonderful spread of cold meats, quiches, salmon, salads and Coronation Chicken. It perhaps has to be said that the Coronation Chicken was not quite to Constance Spry's original recipe but enjoyed nonetheless.
Our sincere thanks go to Tanya (from The Black Stove in Alvor) who single-handed opened the venue and course specially for us and made sure that everything was pristine before we arrived. We may not have been able to have the Treasure Hunt but we had a seriously fun day anyway.
Full details of this and other future events are on our website www.casasocial.club.
