He was the only candidate for the position, and is also president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA). He was elected with 103 votes cast by members, following the Ordinary General and Electoral Assembly, which took place on Tuesday in Faro, according to a statement from ATA.

The election for the 2024-2027 triennium reaffirms, according to the note, “the confidence of members in the work carried out to date and paves the way for the continuity of a strategy that has produced significant results for the promotion of the Algarve as a reference tourist destination alongside international markets”.

André Gomes said he is committed to continuing the work he has already carried out, adopting a strategy that focuses on innovation, effective coordination between ATA and RTA and valuing the contribution of all agents and professionals in the sector.

“The Algarve is increasingly connected to the world and diverse in its proposals. This mandate will be dedicated to consolidating the work done and introducing strategies that expand our reach and the results already achieved, through the promotion of sustainable tourism adapted to the needs of our members and our visitors", stated André Gomes.

ATA is a non-profit association whose objectives are “to develop, promote and publicise the Algarve as a tourist destination among external markets”.
