With this operation, the volume managed by this initiative is around €470 million, aligned with the objective of expanding in key markets such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, Benelux and the Nordic countries, where it has additional capital for new acquisitions, according to a report by idealista.

The acquired assets, leased on a long-term basis by Continente, a leader in the food distribution sector in Portugal, are strategically located in Lourel, Leça do Balio, Loulé and Mafra. Two of these supermarkets are in the Lisbon metropolitan area, one near Porto and the other in the tourist area of the Algarve. These strategic locations are characterised by positive demographic growth and are located in areas with consolidated commercial influence, factors that make them key points for this type of investment.

Fernando Ramírez de Haro, general director of Savills IM for Spain and Portugal, celebrated the operation, highlighting that these assets represent a perfect complement to the four supermarkets acquired in Portugal last year, as part of the same strategy. "We are very pleased to have identified and implemented this investment opportunity, which further strengthens our portfolio in Portugal. These are strategically located assets, leased to a leading operator and with great long-term potential. Portugal continues to demonstrate fundamentals solid and positive economic prospects, even in a complex European context", he said.

In turn, Ian Jones, investment director at Savills IM, highlighted the attraction of this type of asset when recalling the sector's performance during the pandemic health crisis, when it established itself as one of the most resilient in the face of economic restrictions. "Food distribution offers a combination that is difficult to match: stability in income and high resilience, which has attracted numerous investors to this type of asset. In a market where large supermarket portfolios are not abundant, securing this investment in Portugal reflects the strength of our network and our ability to identify strategic opportunities on the continent", he assured.
