“From 1 January 2025, the Unified Health System (SNS) will make free diapers, underwear and incontinence pads available in all health posts in all municipalities in the country for people who have a disability of 60% or more and economic insufficiency”, the Ministry of Health told Lusa.

The measure applies to all ages, as long as the requirements of 60% or more of disability and a record of economic insufficiency at the health centre are met.

Currently, people are forced to buy products at their market value and only then can they request a refund of part of the cost.

With this new measure, all they need to do is present their SNS medical prescription at any health centre and receive the products they need free of charge.
