A Vida Portuguesa explained that the invitation came from MoMA Design Store, the store at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, to install an exhibition of Portuguese brands and products in Manhattan for two months - until 10th March.
The inauguration of the 'pop-up' project will take place on Thursday, at the SoHo store, on Spring Street, and will include a conversation about 'design' and Portuguese culture with the founder of A Vida Portuguesa, Catarina Portas, the illustrator Jorge Colombo, and the director of 'merchandise' at MoMA Design Store, Emmanuel Plat.
"Over the course of eight weeks, (...) Vida Portuguesa will bring the essence of Portugal to New York, with dedicated spaces at the MoMA Design Store in Soho and the Midtown store on 53rd Street, located in front of the Museum. We were born stubbornly believing in the originality and quality of Portuguese creation products, today we are no longer the only ones", said those responsible for the Portuguese store in a statement.
“It was a challenge that surprised us, it is an invitation that makes us proud: in the year that A Vida Portuguesa turns 18, we crossed the ocean to open a temporary space in New York, at the MoMA Design Store”, they added.
The MoMA Design Store's mission is to make "design accessible to the widest possible audience", with the particularity of all its products being approved by the curatorial department of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
