Although it has not yet been officially opened, the renovated Ponte de Arame is now open, connecting the municipalities of Celorico de Basto and Amarante, between the parishes of Arnoia and Rebordelo.

Built in 1926, this historic bridge was given a new lease of life thanks to a renovation project representing an investment of 324 thousand euros, and it is the latest tourist attraction in the Porto region, according to NCultura.

Also known as Ponte de Lourido, this structure was originally built to ensure a crucial connection over the Tâmega River, facilitating transport and communication between local communities. Almost 100 years later, the bridge's renovation is an important milestone for the region, preserving its historical value and adapting it to the new dynamics of leisure and tourism.

The work was promoted by the Association of Municipalities of Douro and Tâmega (AMDT), which sees this project as having enormous potential to boost local tourism. According to AMDT, the bridge's requalification aims to transform it into a tourist icon, taking advantage of its natural surroundings to attract visitors, walkers and cyclists who travel along the Tâmega Ecopista, a unique route along the river.

This project is part of the Collective Efficiency Strategies (EEC) PROVERE – Tourism for All, a program dedicated to nature tourism and the valorisation of local resources in regions such as Douro, Tâmega e Sousa, Arouca and Vale de Cambra.
