As soon as the Crown had taken over the Mastership of the Orders, the Pope agreed to the establishment of the Inquisition. Peter looks at how the idea of the Inquisition grew and its predecessors in Europe. What purpose did it serve in Portugal? What means did it use? And how long did it last? Lagoa Municipal Library at 18:00 on Tuesday 25 February; and Tavira Municipal Library at 11:00 on Friday 28 February. There is no charge for these presentations, but voluntary contributions are welcome.
If you are interested in the greening of Tavira, then the short presentation by Peter Bellchambers at the Tavira talk will be of interest. For about five minutes, he will present four panels with sixteen of his ‘before and after’ proposals for ‘Greening the City’. With the ever-present threat of global warming, and higher street temperatures, Peter hopes to encourage the Câmara to plant hundreds more shade trees within the town.
Our concert on 23 February again features Nikola Meeuwsen, who will be making his ninth visit to our concert series. He visited for the first time in 2016 as a teenager, and has since visited us nearly every year. His recital will include works by Ligeti, Mendelssohn, Liszt and Chopin; and the second half will feature Mozart´s Jeunehomme Concerto K271, during which he will be accompanied by a string quartet of performers from the Algarve. Nikola has become intensely busy on the concert and recital circuit, and we are fortunate that he chooses to return to play for us. Sunday 23 February at 16:00 at Quintinha da Música. Reservations at €30 by email through Peter peterbooker1347@gmail.com
