The winning song was chosen through the usual voting system: half of the score awarded by a jury, made up of representatives from seven regions of mainland Portugal and the islands, and the other half by public vote.

The music by Madeiran band NAPA came second in the public vote and fourth in the jury vote, with a total of 17 points. The song “Cotovia”, by Diana Vilarinho, also received the same score.

In the event of a tie, the public's choice prevails and NAPA came out ahead of Diana Vilarinho.

The semi-finals of the 69th Eurovision Song Contest are scheduled for 13 and 15 May and the final for 17 May. Portugal appears in the first semi-final.

Last year, in the 68th edition, which took place in Malmo, Sweden, the Portuguese representative, Iolanda, reached 10th place with the song “Grito”.

Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 1964, having failed to participate in five editions (in 1970, 2000, 2002, 2013 and 2016).

In 2017, Portugal won the competition for the first and only time with the song “Amar pelos dois”, by Luísa Sobral, performed by Salvador Sobral.
