In a statement, the IPMA indicates that the earthquake was recorded at the Azores Seismic Network stations at 7:14 am local time (8:14 am in Lisbon) and had its epicentre approximately 25 kilometres (km) south-southeast of Faial da Terra, on the island of S. Miguel.
A source from the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) told Lusa news agency that until 8 am local time (9 am in Lisbon) “there were no reports of damage or requests for help” from the population.
The SRPCBA is monitoring the situation, he said.
The Azores Seismovolcanic Surveillance and Information Center (CIVISA) - which usually takes a different measurement than the IPMA - has not yet issued a statement about the event and, at 8:10 am local time, its website was offline.
