Since Bright International School embraced its new identity in September 2024, the school has been on a remarkable journey of growth and transformation. Leading this evolution is School Principal Tom Caston, who reflects on the progress made so far, “it’s been an incredible experience for me as Principal” he shares. “I took over a wonderful school, with the aim to grow and develop into something brilliant, but a little different.”
One of Bright’s most distinctive features is its innovative approach to education. With years of experience in international schools, Tom highlights what sets Bright apart from others: “the flexible learning spaces are so different, but when you teach in them, it feels so obvious and natural. The school also has to be fun, so when the boys and girls walk through the gates each day in the morning, I want them to know that it will be a fun day.”
At the heart of Bright’s success is its dedicated community, with parental involvement playing a crucial role in the school’s thriving community. Tom believes in open communication and a strong partnership between school and families. “A strong relationship between the school and parents is vital for ensuring the boys and girls are thriving” says Tom. “ My door is always open, and we try to build a trusting and honest dialogue in all moments. Our parent community has been incredibly supportive and generous with their time and efforts towards school events, and we value them hugely. They are very important to what we are building here.”
Bright International School is committed to preparing its students for the global challenges of tomorrow “We talk regularly at Bright about building skills for the future: creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication. To those four, we want to add a strong set of principles and discernment — making good decisions in key moments and standing firm to those principles.”
Innovation and creativity are at the core of Bright’s approach to learning. “An inquiry-based learning approach demands that the pupils are pushed to think, rather than simply absorb information.” The impact of the new flexible learning spaces is already evident in the students’ experiences, according to Tom “the learning spaces allow the pupils to find their own calm and create a bubble for themselves. Some might still want to work at a desk, but others need space, and some need to be in a more sociable environment. We are all different and need different environments to flourish. The flexible spaces give them ownership of their learning.”
As Bright International School continues to evolve, its commitment to innovation, student well-being and academic excellence remains unwavering. Under Tom’s leadership, the school is shaping a dynamic and inspiring environment where every child can thrive.
