Running from 30 April to 4 May, this year’s edition is themed “The Grand Adventure: From Lagos to Japan”, showcasing the city’s vital role in Portugal’s Age of Discovery. Set in the historic area between Praça do Infante and Jardim da Constituição, the Quinhentista Market is one of the festival’s main attractions, offering visitors an immersive journey into the sights, sounds, and flavours of the 1500s.

Until 30 March, applications are open via the festival’s official page, and submissions must include a descriptive portfolio, recent photographs of the products for sale, and images of the market stall or tent. Eligible participants include artisans, merchants, and tavern keepers, as well as cultural associations, sports clubs, and local schools, which are exempt from space rental fees.

The selection criteria will consider the alignment of products with the festival’s theme, prior experience in similar fairs, local residency, stall presentation, and completeness of the application. Those who are accepted will be notified by 11 April, with participation subject of a single fee based on stall size.

A reference event in Lagos’ cultural and tourism calendar, the Festival of the Discoveries brings history to life through theatrical performances, interactive exhibits, historical reenactments, exhibitions, conferences, live entertainment, and a grand historical parade.
