In a statement, the metropolitan road transport company said the new night network will ensure "easier, faster and more comfortable journeys throughout the early hours of the morning", according to a report by NM.
The offer of "more than 70 schedules between 9pm and 6am, with optimised, direct and comprehensive routes, which reinforce the connection between strategic points in the region", comes as a response "to the growing demand for mobility solutions at night", explained the company.
What are the changes?
In total, Carris Metropolitana has carried out "an increase of 58 schedules between the different areas of the AML", the note reads, adding that, in area 1, there will be "an increase of 11 schedules between 01:00 and 06:00".
In this area, two new lines will be introduced, both with night timetables: 1740 (Marquês de Pombal - Metro -- Rio de Mouro - Estação Norte) and 1741 (Marquês de Pombal - Metro -- Queluz de Baixo - shopping center via Algés) and there will also be reinforcement of two night timetables on line 1722 (Alfragide, shopping centre -- Hospital São Francisco Xavier).
In area 2, four more schedules will be held between 1 am and 5 am, with night reinforcement of line 2730, between Estação Oriente and Santa Iria Azóia (Loures).
According to Carris Metropolitana, the biggest reinforcement will be seen in area 3, on the south bank of the Tagus, with 26 new night timetables between 9 pm and 6 am, which will reinforce lines 3105 (Fernão Ferro -- Fogueteiro-station), 3536 (Foros de Amora-station -- Sesimbra-terminal), 3547 (Fogueteiro-station -- Quinta do Conde via Pinhal de Frades), 20 (Coina-station -- Quinta do Conde) and 3721 (Lisbon-Sete Rios -- Sesimbra-terminal).
In area 4, the network will have a reinforcement of 19 schedules between 9 pm and 6 am, on lines 4701 (Lisbon-Oriente -- Vale da Amoreira), 4710 (Lisbon-Oriente -- Palmela-terminal), 4715 (Lisbon-Oriente -- Setúbal-ITS, via Palmela) and 4720 (Lisbon-Oriente) -- ).
From today, line 4715 will have its itinerary changed, now serving Palmela (Terminal) with its new name, and will operate after 00:30, and its current timetables will be carried out by lines 4710 and 4720.
A new exclusively night-time line will also be introduced, 4708, which will connect Alcochete (Freeport) and Lisbon-Oriente via Montijo, now serving Samouco and S. Francisco and operating night-time schedules, previously served by lines 4702 and 4705. As this is a fast line, fares will be 4.50 euros on board and 3.10 euros in pre-payment, as reported on the Carris Metropolitana website (https://www.carrismetropolitana.pt/ ), where changes and new timetables can be consulted.
