The president of Transtejo Soflusa, Alexandra Ferreira de Carvalho, was speaking during the closing conference of Public Participation on the Extension of Line 3 of the Metro Sul do Tejo to Costa da Caparica and Trafaria, which took place at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in the municipality of Almada.
"We will have three electric ships making the connection between Seixal and Cais do Sodré. Still in experimental trip mode, because we are still in the testing phase, while there will always be a diesel ship available in case of any unforeseen event".
Transtejo Soflusa is the company responsible for the river connection between Seixal, Montijo, Cacilhas, Barreiro and Trafaria/Porto Brandão, in the district of Setúbal, and Lisbon.
The company's president said that there are currently two electric ships making the connection with experimental trips because the official operation has not yet started.
In February, the mayor of Seixal, Paulo Silva, had already mentioned, after a meeting with the management of Transtejo, that the company had told him that an improvement in the service was expected in March.
In a message to residents published on the municipality's social media, the mayor said that for the City Hall of Seixal, in the district of Setúbal, "it is very important that river transport is reliable" so that it can be an alternative to the rail transport service provided by Fertagus.
