According to the Captain of the Port of Lagos and local commander of the Maritime Police (PM), Hugo da Guia, the search, which is been taking place for the second consecutive day, for the 29-year-old man of French nationality, was resumed at around 7:30 am, by sea and land, with the support of a drone.
In operations at sea, crew members from the Sagres Lifeguard Station are involved and, on land, members of the PM and firefighters from Vila do Bispo, supported by a drone.
Hugo da Guia previously told Lusa that the man was identified through the registration number of the paraglider found on Sunday afternoon, in the water and near the coast, and of a vehicle that was parked in the area.
The paraglider and the vehicle belong to the same person, “a 29-year-old man of French nationality,” he said.
According to the Captain of the Port of Lagos, on Monday afternoon, “he called the Psychology office” of the Maritime Police, which is “in contact with the family”.
On Monday, operations to try to locate the man took place throughout the day, and the teams demobilised around 8:30 pm.
The searches, which are taking place south of Praia das Furnas, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in the district of Faro, began late Sunday afternoon, after an alert given by a local who was in the area and who told the authorities that he had seen paragliding equipment in the water.
