The panels are spread over nine rooms, with eight panels in Gare de Alcântara and six in Gare Rocha Conde de Óbidos. Constituting simultaneously a museum space for port activities during the 1940s. The modernist panels were developed between 1943 and 1949 and constitute the largest set of Portuguese mural paintings of the twentieth century.
The restoration of the panels began in January of last year, with the goal to retrieve the colours of the original paintings and included a broader project to recover two maritime stations and the development of the Interpretative Centre, which will also contain a restaurant. The project, which resulted from a partnership between the Câmera Municipal de Lisboa, the Administração do Porto de Lisboa (APL) and the Associação Turismo de Lisboa (ATL) benefitted from a financing of €8,2 million.
