According to the Idealista price index, at the end of August this year, renting a house had a cost of €10.90 per square metre (euros/m2).
The region which has seen the sharpest decrease is the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (-6.2 percent), followed by the Algarve (-0.6 percent) and the North (-0.6 percent). Conversely, it was in the Alentejo where there was a greater rise in prices (3.9 percent), followed by the Centre (3.8 percent), the Autonomous Region of Madeira (2.4 percent) and the Autonomous Region of the Azores (0.9 percent).
The Lisbon Metropolitan Area, with 12.4 euros/m2, continues to be the most expensive region, followed by the Algarve (9.8 euros/m2), the North (9.3 euros/m2) and the Autonomous Region of Madeira (8.1 euros/m2). On the opposite end of the table are the Centre (6.4 euros/m2), Alentejo (6.8 euros/m2), the Autonomous Region of the Azores (6.9 euros/m2), which are the cheapest regions.
