In an interview with TVI about the proposed State Budget for 2022 (OE2022), João Leão said that the increase in the national minimum wage, which in 2021 rose 30 Euros, setting at 665 Euros, "will be in line" with the increase for this year "or even higher".

"We want it to at least be in line with last year's and we are looking to make a reinforcement of at least that amount next year," the finance minister added.

In addition to valuing the lowest salaries, the minister argued that it is also a matter of "giving a signal to the private sector to increase not only the minimum wage, but the remaining salaries.

In the report that accompanies the proposal of OE2022, the Government ensures that the national minimum wage will increase again next year to reach 750 Euros in 2023.

"In 2022, the national minimum wage should continue the trajectory of significant appreciation of the last five years, maintaining the commitment to reach 750 Euros in 2023," reads the document delivered on by the executive in Parliament.

In a document published on 11 October by the government with the main lines of the State Budget for 202022, the executive indicates that "the national minimum wage will increase in line with the average increase in recent years.”

The value of the minimum wage is set by the Government, after hearing the social partners in Social Concertation.

The Government delivered on 11 October, in Parliament, the draft State Budget for 2022 (OE22), which provides for the Portuguese economy to grow 4.8 percent in 2021 and 5.5 percent in 2022.
