The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has lamented the death of a police officer in the District Command of the PSP of Évora, who was the victim of being run over after a police intervention.
"Another national example of someone who, even though not in service, gave his life for his neighbour and to whom Portugal owes homage", says Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who "has already spoken personally to the agent's wife, directing the most heartfelt condolences also to his children, family and friends, as well as to the Public Security Police".
Also the Minister of Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita, expressed on behalf of the Government his "deep regret" for the death of the agent. "On behalf of the Government, I express my deep regret for the death" of the 45 years old police officer, "a victim of being run over after a police intervention", can be read in the note sent to Lusa News Agency by the office of the Minister of Internal Administration (MAI).
The agent of the Évora District Police Command was not working on Saturday night, but intervened in a situation of domestic violence that he saw taking place, on the street, and ended up being run over by the alleged aggressor, who ran away. The suspect was detained by GNR.
The man, who is suspect of the homicide, is a prison guard at the Sintra Prison Establishment (EP) and is 52 years old.
