In a statement, the FIA said Hamilton "had several negative tests" and was allowed to leave Bahrain, where he had been quarantined for the past 10 days, and to travel to Abu Dhabi after having a positive test for the new coronavirus, on the 29 November.
In accordance with the protocol outlined for Formula 1, Hamilton again performed a new test on arrival in Abu Dhabi, which also resulted in a negative result, thus allowing the Briton to be free to take part in the race, which begins today, with the first two free practice sessions.
The Mercedes driver, who has seven world championship titles, including this season's, was tested on the eve of the Bahrain Grand Prix on 29 November after waking up with symptoms and missed the next Grand Prix at the Sakhir circuit, being replaced by compatriot George Russell. At the Abu Dhabi GP, which takes place on Sunday, Lewis Hamilton will look for his 12th win of the season.
